The concept of a new Chamber Choir which would perform music from Palestrina to Porter and Bach to Bernstein arose out of discussions between Bill Watkins, Tony Fry and Simon Twiselton, during the summer of 2005. Simon had been mulling over the possibilities of doing this very thing and finding like-minded souls in Bill and Tony the search began in earnest for experienced singers who had a similar philosophy. Auditions and singing day events took place during the autumn of that year and a fledgling group began rehearsing in early 2006 in the village hall at Bishops Caundle in Dorset.
Spectra Musica gave its first performance in Wincanton in December 2006 and has since performed three times a year throughout the counties of Somerset, Dorset and Wiltshire. In 2007 the choir moved its rehearsal base to Wincanton, which is more central for the members owing to the fact that its membership came from far and wide.
We have 25 singers and are always willing to audition potential new recruits - we would particularly like to hear from soprano singers. Please get in touch if you are interested.
